Crowns
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
At Bayside Dental we provide two different types of crown:
*Conventional two visit crowns which are made by a dental laboratory
*In-house milled crowns made on-site out of a high quality ceramic material so you leave with your premium crown on the same day
Reasons for crowns:
- Broken or fractured teeth.
- Decayed teeth.
- Fractured fillings.
- Large fillings.
- Tooth has a root canal treatment.
Procedure:
While the tooth is numb, the dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the surface to properly fit the crown. Once these details are accomplished, the dentist will then scan your teeth to make a digital 3D model of your mouth. This scan is either sent to a laboratory to fabricate your crown or it is used to design your crown before it is made in the milling machine on-site.
The final crown is then cemented in place on the tooth. The dentist will double check the fit and that your bite is comfortable before polishing it to look bright and shiny
